Hanover
Park Vineyard was unknowingly born during a month long honeymoon in the south
of France in the summer of 1996. Michael and Amy Helton returned home, with
a love of wine and the countryside, and by December Hanover Park Vineyard, in
the Yadkin Valley of North
Carolina began. Two artists and teachers took a chance, worked very hard, and
turned a farm into a thriving vineyard.

Two and
a half acres were planted in 1997; two more acres were planted in 1998, with another acre planted in 2004. The
farmhouse, built in 1897, was transformed into the tasting room and winery in
1999 for the first harvest producing 375 cases. The 2000 vintage was 1000 cases;
the 2001 harvest was 1800 cases, and the 2002 about 2400 cases.
People
feel at home at Hanover Park, walking through the vineyards, picnicking under
the old oaks, tasting the wines, and sometimes pitching in to help with the
work. The atmosphere is conducive to sitting and visiting in addition to tasting
and enjoying the wines.
Amy manages
the tasting room and special events at the vineyard. Michael is the winemaker
and is at the winery all day, every day.
